2015, By the roaring waves!

Shutting old doors

Illusions. Mirages. Fantasies. There comes a time when you need to let go of the unreal things and start life anew. A friend, who wants to keep anonymity, wrote this piece a few days back and shared it with me. I like it because of the different perspective it gives and because sometimes, only written words can help you understand what nothing else can. This gave me hope.

There comes a time when you give up
Your old dreams, your unachieved goals
And surrender yourself to the reality.
No, not because you’re afraid or scared
But at some point in the chase
You get tired of running
Behind the unattainable.
You get tired of seeking shade
Under a mirage.
But remember, that moment of
Surrendering is not the end.
It’s far from being one.
It’s an opportunity,
A door to a new possible world.
Shut the broken unbolted door
With humility and grace.
And break open the new door
Take in the whiff of fresh air.
End the previous chapter
With the notes of complacency.
Start a new chapter,
With the ink of belief and faith.
Trust yourself.
There is a whole new universe
Of dreams spread out,
Waiting to be fancied.
And bazillion stars waiting
Impatiently to get into your
Bottle of fantasies.
And the instant you realize this
You gift yourself a new life.
Now, close your eyes
Imagine the vast night sky.
Do you see stars
Dangling up there,
With dreams perched on them?
Jump high!
A bit more higher!
Ah Yes! Pluck the one(s) you desire!
Then sow them in the
Fertile soil of your being.
Water them every day, patiently.
Nurture them, lovingly!
And one day, witness
Your stars, your dreams
Your fantasies, EXPLODE
Luminously and encompass
The world within you and around you
In its light!
The world you once thought,
Could never be illuminated
Ever again, will ignite
By your dreams, by your passion,
By your feet that never stopped.”

“We know you’re tired, tired and scared. Happens to everyone, okay? Just don’t let your feet stop”- Haruki Murakami

  1. THIS. WOW…
I love it. Whoever wrote it, is a genius. I especially loved the way writer let us envision this new life, this new beginning we all look for
    “Now, close your eyes
    Imagine the vast night sky…”
Such a beautifully expressed piece. Any amount of praise will fall short to describe how great this is.
    Thank you for sharing ❀

Kudos to your friend, we hold on to things that stop us moving forward, surrendering is not defeat , its a way to rise up again, to jump higher one has to bend one’s knees a little, loved this line
    Fertile soil of your being.
    Water them every day, patiently.
everyday is a new lesson, a new experience, making us better, stronger, wiser …. please convey my appreciation to ur friend for writing such a beautiful poem, and thank you for sharing it with us πŸ™‚

    • I sure will! Thank you so much, Akhiz! πŸ™‚

Surrendering is not defeat. But I haven’t been much positive about the idea lately because sometimes it’s just cowardice that lets one accept things happening in their lives while taking the back-seat as if they’ve NO control whatsoever on whatever is happening. That’s not how faith or fate should work. But it is true that at times, we’re only holding onto things that are just not real. And those stop us from moving forward and from actually being happy. In such cases, closing the unbolted door and letting in fresh air sounds like peace.

And as you said: it makes us better, stronger, and wiser… I like that thought too. πŸ™‚

  3. As a person who is sort of afraid of change, yet leaps at it every time it peeks through the door, this was such a comforting read. The writer, please tell them they comforted me. They comforted all of us. πŸ™‚
